The S2980 sports an impressive 28mm - 504mm high precision Fujinon optical zoom lens. Simple to operate with an electric powered zoom lever, the huge zoom range means that you can capture all the detail, even when you're at a considerable distance away. You can even operate the zoom during video shooting. Unlike a bulky D-SLR, bridge cameras allow you great versatility of zoom, without the hassle of carrying a bag of lenses.

The S2980 has a 14 megapixel CCD sensor and 18x optical zoom lens, which is a 35mm equivalent of 28-504mm, great for shooting landscapes and close-ups of distant objects. To help take the sharpest pictures possible there is Dual Image Stabilisation combining high ISO sensitivity and sensor-shift image stabilisation.

There are a wide range of shooting modes, SR Auto scene recognition which automatically adjusts the camera settings for the scene, as well as semi-automatic and manual modes for those who are more confident in changing some of the more advanced settings. Other features include intelligent face detection, red-eye removal, blink detection and smile & shoot mode.

You can tag your photos and images for sharing on YouTube and Facebook, then when you next connect the camera to your PC and run MyFinePix Studio software, they will be automatically uploaded. Images can also be assigned a star rating so you can easily search for your favourites.

Videos are recorded at 720p at 30 fps, with optical zoom available during recording. The camera can then be attached to a HDTV for playback.

I bought this camera to use instead of my bulky SLR with lenses which can be too, much to carry around...and this camera doea it all! The zoom can be grainy when used to the fullest extent, but when not zoomed the angle is quite wide and the macro has two great settings, regular and ultra. The camera also has an awesome panorama setting! There are many functions, you need to read the manual. The only negative points I have so far is the fit of the lens cap (not tight enough, falls off) and t ... he battery/sd card compartment is difficult to open and close, the plastic is cheap. Not for rough use. The recent shots I took of a local visit to somt Tall Ships are awesome! More >

The Fuji FinePix S2980 isn't an amazing camera, but don't let that put you off of it if you're interested in a budget entry level camera or a cheap/lightweight point & shooter. It definitely doesn't do too well indoors or in low light conditions, but that's to be expected in a camera this affordable. Time between shots isn't the best but I've suffered much worse. The panorama mode is pretty nifty too.

I bought this camera because my old Sony died. I looked at a few different ones before landing on the Fuji. My only complaint so far is that runs off four double A batteries and not a rechargeable one. I know that I can buy rechargeable double As, I just haven't done it yet. Other than that, I have no complaints.

I bought two of these Synergy Digital chargers as a curiosity for for my Nikon (D800) MB-D12 Multi Battery Power Pack (the MB-D12 uses 8 AA (Ni-MH) batteries, which came with these two chargers) to compare against my current SONY counterparts. The chargers, which by the way also charge AAA batteries, are very easy to use with two LEDs indicating status (Red = Charging; Green = Fully Charged). In my first series of picture-taking tests with my D800+MB-D12, these fully-charged Ni-MH batteries powe ... red my Nikon D800 at fast speeds (6 fps) for 1,000+ pictures (I lost count after taking so many test pictures :-)) and still showed about half power levels on the D800; I was very pleased. I also tested these chargers against my current SONY Cycle-Energy chargers (also bought from Amazon) using SONY Ni-MH batteries; and charging from these almost empty SONY batteries, these chargers easily out-paced the SONY chargers and charged these batteries 2+ hours quicker. I prefer the designs of the spring terminals in these Synergy Digital chargers; they are stiffer and hold the batteries more securely than those of the SONY chargers; hence the batteries do not fall out accidentally; and presumably the stiffer Synergy Digital charger terminals should last longer with repeated use too. For about 30% less in list price than the SONY counterparts, I believe these Synergy Digital chargers are a great buy. I highly recommend these and I will keeping using them on a regular basis to see how they last long-term. More >

The charger works like a charm but the batteries supplied are just a little larger diameter than a standard AA battery. I haven
